Wiki Wiki

Back in Hawaii, at HON, looking out the scratched and dirty back window of the Wiki Wiki shuttle from the main terminal to the inter-island terminal.  Flying from Honolulu to Kona was the best flight of the trip.  The 717 was new and quiet, the flight was half empty, the stewards and stewardesses were nice and there were even people I know on the plane.  The views of the Kaiwe and Alenuihaa Channels were nice in the late afternoon sun.

When I got to Kona it was overcast and raining, which is unusual but pleasant weather for Kona.  The baggage carousel was broken so the luggage was delivered directly from the carts.   I went directly to pick up Lucas, stopped at the store in Kawaihae to get some milk and then went home.  Now the trip is over.  :-)  :-(

Caryn Was There

Sabino Canyon

We started the day by going to Starbucks where they were serving samples of some kinda pumpkin spiced coffee.  Caryn said it tasted like fall.  I spilled half of mine on the floor by the counter.  There were more black people there than live in Waimea.  I like diversity.

On the way to Sabino Canyon we only made one wrong turn.  For future reference, you turn lef on Ina, the name of which changes about two times, and then when it ends, you're pretty much there.  We hiked/ran up to the top of the Sabino Canyon, 3.7 miles, which is as far as the paved road/trail goes.  About a mile in, we ran into (almost literally) a big rattle snake crossing the road.

Everyone on the trail is friendly and they say, "Hi," or "Good morning."  It's really... friendly.

North

Tonight we had dinner at North. Caryn and I had Kettle One vodka
martinis which very delicious. We got a lot of special treatment from
Kevin the manager. The appatizer, calamari was probably the best I
ever had. The swordfish was good too. It was all good, better than
Sunflowers last night, except for the esspreso which tasted like
strong Maxwell House.

We Survived

We ended up hiking for over three hours and although we were hot,
thirsty, tired and hungry when we got back it was wotth it. The
cascading stream and pools were very beautiful and it was good to get
out in the semi wilderness and to get some exercise. I ran part of the
way up, but most of the trail was too rocky and steep to run.

We had a good conversation on the way down, but the subject matter
isn't appropriate the publish here. Suffice it to say that we are both
products of the same developmental environment.

Now I am waiting outside while Caryn shops for langerie. Soon we will
meet my mother at the assisted care facility were David is staying and
then the tree of us are going to see a... For a business appointment.

Mountain Stream

Finally we escaped to grip of development, opressoon and insanity.
About an hour up a steep, rocky trail, we found a stream cascading
over smoothed granite.

Now the sun is scortching hot, we have no water and rattle snakes and
mountain lions abound. This may be the last entry. If so, and anyone
finds us, there is one last thing I want to say...

Waiting for the God Damn Dessert

Apple Store

The new Nanos are pretty slick. Touch is surprisingly thin. MacBooks
are looking outdated. MacBook Pros not bad. The Air is sick. iMac is
not bad but 24" screen does look better than smaller one. Wish the new
laptops where here.

Of all the stores in this mall (La Cantada) the Apple store has the
most activity.

The First Night

This is the part of the trip where I wonder how I will make it through
the rest. But I will, by getting some sleep tonight, and getting
outside tomorrow and hiking or running or something.

It is very clostrophobic here. My sister is sleeping in the studio,
which has a door, and I'm sleeping in the den, which does not. I can
hear the tv going in mother's room, and there is maniacal screaming
which adds to my feeling of being in a strange but disturbingly
familiar place.

A place where my mental formations once grew, like stalagtites and
stalagmites, layer by layer, forming an intricate mave in the caverns
of the silver mine I used to explore. I knew there was a place where
the cave opened again to the surface. A cuople of times I could see
sunlight coming through an opening in the distace, but I could never
get through to it because the dark, muddy water was too deep

I will put my headphones on and create my own world.

The music, Max 404, drawing pictures, memories, dancing in the dark,
when past was present. Now the past is a dream, and the present is
fading into a dream.

Under the draft of a cooling duct, sweating in my sleeping bag,
windows shut.

Birthday Girl

Today is my mother's 76th birthday. My sister and I went to AJ's and
got some really good food for dinner.

Straight Caryn

Caryn is having a very animated conversation with my mother and my
aunt. She is very smart and funny. I think she's only pretending to be
intoxicated.

47 Miles to Tucson

Indian Jewlery

At the rest stop on the way to Tucson from Phoenix.

Temperature outside I'm high 80s. Blue sky but not ad blue as in
Hawaii. Speed limit on freeway is 75!

Must figure out how to take clearer pics with phone.

At the Gate

With a whole lot of very nice people. Mostly dressed in Sears best.
Average age about 55 - mostly people in their 60s, mostly not
beautiful people.

There's a cool breeze coming off the ocean. I am in shorts nut I have
paints and a jacket in my backpack.

First class is boarding. I'm still waiting. Why am I not a first
citizen?

Hawaiian elevator music playing in the holding area.

Saw Robins, a long time friend (acquantence) from paddling, working at
the security screening area. I said hi, he said high, then our worlds
ceased to overlap.

Thirty-three minutes to scheduled departure.

Long Line

Even though I did the web check in, I still have to wait in this long
line that's not moving. Everyone is just standing here, perpetually
waiting, not moving.

Mobile Blogging

I like try post all by email from my phone, and use photos taken with
the phone.

Wheel of Fortune

Lucas went down to the Hilton with his friend to see the Wheel of
Fortune being taped. He went with his school last night too. This was
taken just before I drove him to his friend Paul's house.
